The module covers advanced macroeconomics, with an emphasis on the role of macroeconomic policy. It analyses how macroeconomic policies – monetary policy and fiscal policy – affect the economy and their impact on fluctuations in the economy. The course also considers issues of optimal policy design, monetary-fiscal interaction, monetary and fiscal policy in liquidity traps and monetary and fiscal policy under shocks. Cutting edge policy, such as unorthodox monetary policy and ‘enhanced debt management’ also feature in this module. The inventor of ‘quantitative easing’ will teach on the various aspects of this policy.
